Joining, layering, connecting
Abstract works in metal and other substances tell, without a motif, of joining things together. You can look for abstract mixed media metal sculptures for sale if you want to see material, color and form combined freely.
Sheet and wood, wire and plaster, cast and textile meet here. Abstract mixed media lives on how the parts are fitted together: bolted, riveted, welded, glued. The joins are visible and part of the statement.

Freedom in construction
Without a motif prescribed, artists can build rhythms of mass and void, set colors as contrast and stage textures. The result often looks improvised but is precisely tuned. From the side it usually looks different than from the front.
Before choosing
Ask for photos from several angles and for details on materials, weight and fixing. Check loose parts and sharp edges. If you need orientation, compare several pieces side by side and watch joins, weight and footprint.
