From wax to metal
Bronze is born in fire, and the metal shows it: dark, warm, with a skin of patina. Bronze sculptures for sale between 2,000 and 5,000 euro usually come as a cast in a small edition or as a one-off.
In lost wax casting the model is shaped in wax, embedded in ceramic and melted out. Liquid bronze flows into the hollow. After cooling the mold is broken away, and the metal is cleaned and patinated. Each of these steps leaves traces that make the piece alive.

Patina and care
Brown, black, green or reddish: patina is applied deliberately with chemicals and heat and keeps developing over time. A wax film protects the surface, occasional dusting is enough. Outdoors weather changes the color, indoors it stays stable for long. More on the material sits under metal.
Edition and foundry mark
Bronze is usually cast in numbered editions. On the underside or the foot you often find number, signature and the foundry’s mark. Ask the listing about the edition and about a certificate.
