Craft with the carving knife
Linocut means carving, inking and transferring with pressure: that gives strong surfaces and clear outlines. Linocuts with ink for sale under 500 euro make a good way into collecting.
In linocut the motif is cut into a linoleum plate. What stays standing takes the ink and prints. That produces clear surfaces and a raw freshness, and every impression shows it slightly differently. Small formats are especially popular in linocut, because the plate is easy to cut and larger editions can be managed by hand.

Strong on the wall
Linocuts carry color and shape even from a distance. Hang them in a kitchen, hallway or children’s room, where their directness fits well. A wooden frame in natural or black underlines the handmade character.
Number, plate, paper
Watch for the edition number in pencil, the signature and the paper used. Slight color differences between impressions are normal. If you prefer something finer, compare with the etching.
