Montage in pigment
Surreal photography tips over the familiar: a staircase leads into nothing, a sky lies beneath your feet. You can find surrealist ink prints from 500 to 1,000 euro for sale if you want a picture with a riddle in it.
Surreal images arise from double exposure, collage or digital montage. Ink gives these works a calm, almost painterly undertone, so the breaks in the picture only show on the second look and the riddle is not solved from across the room.

A picture with an afterglow
Prints like these work in rooms where you linger, such as a study or above a reading chair. Dark areas hold back, light passages set the accent, and a slim black frame strengthens the effect.
Middle tier, precise description
For 500 to 1,000 euro, medium formats and limited editions are typical. Ask whether the picture is a montage and how the edition was numbered. A note on paper and ink belongs in a good description as well. A picture that first looks harmless and then unsettles usually stays fresh longest in a living space.
