Carrier and process
Soft pictures exist on fiberglass, on paper or on other carriers. Depending on the process they look painterly, smooth or object-like. Edited works and straight photographs sit side by side too.
Before deciding
Check dimensions, edition and signature. A look at color photographs or at charcoal works shows how differently softness can look. Take the light in your room into account. If you want a soft motif on paper, look for matte or satin material that dampens reflections. For an object-like feel, a carrier without a frame is an option. In both cases the edge finish deserves attention.
