Color as sign
A red boat, a yellow umbrella in the rain: in symbolism, color becomes a cipher. You can find symbolist color photographs on paper for sale if the color in the picture is meant to mean something.
Here the palette decides the reading: red can be closeness or warning, blue distance or grief. On matte paper the sign colors feel calmer, on semi-gloss paper stronger. Choose by the mood you prefer.

Playing together with the room
A picture with symbolic color should speak to your room, not against it. Check the wall color and the daylight at the spot where it will hang. A white frame lets the color stand free, a black one condenses it.
Good to know
Ask about the lightfastness of the process, since saturated tones fade in sun sooner. Edition, number, signature and the paper type belong in a good description. When in doubt, a detail shot helps.
