Old themes, soft chalk
Classical motifs in oil pastel are rare and therefore appealing: still life, figure and landscape in rich, creamy colors. Paintings in the classical style with oil pastel under 500 euro are for sale here.
Classical means order, proportion and calm composition. In oil pastel these themes gain an unaccustomed warmth: contours are softer than in oil, colors denser than in watercolor. The result sits between drawing and painting.

Small format, clear attitude
Under 500 euro, originals typically mean studies, small still lifes and works on paper. They fit well in a row above a chest of drawers or in a hallway. Matching frames and even gaps give the group a classical severity.
Technical notes
Oil pastel stays soft and takes imprints. A frame with glass and a spacer strip is part of it. Ask about paper thickness and whether the sheet was treated with a fixative, since not every kind can be applied without changing the color.
