An attitude, not an era
Modern painting gets by with few means: loose brushwork, clean fields of color, and an idea that needs no anecdote. Anyone looking for modern paintings for sale in the 500 to 1,000 euro range can watch for pieces where the artist’s hand is already easy to recognize.
Modern here is not a date range but an attitude. The picture is allowed to be surface, color, and gesture without depicting anything. Visible brush marks, color fields with hard edges, and crops that think past the frame are typical. The effect comes from how a few elements relate to each other.

Plenty of wall, little decor
Modern pictures need air. A calm wall, some distance from furniture, and light raking in from the side let the paint layers do their work. A slim shadow-gap frame keeps the composition open. Above a sofa, one larger picture usually carries more than a cluster of small ones.
Check material and size
In this price range you will often meet medium formats and young but distinct voices. Look in the description for dimensions, depth, and hanging hardware. Whether it is acrylic on canvas or oil on canvas, the material tells you how the paint dries and how the picture is cared for.
