Traces of movement
Expressive painting makes the movement of the hand visible: brush marks, palette knife edges, paint that rears up. Here you can find expressive and gestural oil paintings under 500 euro for sale.
In gestural painting the speed and bodily effort are part of the picture. Oil preserves these traces: thick strokes stand as ridges, sweeping lines remain as furrows. The surface tells how the picture came about, and every look finds a new spot.

Energy on a small surface
In a compact format the gesture feels concentrated. A small, wild picture beside a calm piece of furniture sets an accent without dominating the room. It lives on side light, which models the ridges of paint.
Drying and hanging
Thickly applied oil takes a long time to dry through. Ask how old the picture is and whether it has been varnished yet. Transport it with space around all surfaces, so the ridges stay undamaged.
