Color that stays in motion
Pastel in the expressive, gestural style turns movement into color. Paintings of this style with pastel are for sale here, with strong strokes and layers that mix in the eye.
With gestural pastel you see the hand: long pulls, short dabs, smears with the edge of the palm. Overlays produce blended tones that dissolve into single strokes up close. Paper with texture carries this density especially well.

Technique and price
On canvas with a rough acrylic ground, pastel works too, see acrylic on canvas. If you want an entry point, you will find works under 500 euro. They look especially good above a sideboard, on a wall with even daylight.
How pastel lasts
Pastel belongs behind glass, and with spacing so chalk dust does not reach the pane. Once framed, the picture lasts many years. Avoid shocks during transport and store the picture flat.
