Emblems in veils
Symbolism and watercolor fit together, since both work with hints. If you want symbolist watercolors for sale, you will find sheets on which emblems appear in delicate veils and blur away again.
Water-based paint can be applied so thin that motifs appear as if behind gauze. In this way painters place moon, bird, stairs or mirror in half-darkness. Single clear lines give the riddle a hold. Viewers may add what is missing, and therein lies the effect.

Atmospheric hanging
Subdued lighting, a place by a window with a curtain or in a niche: such spots let the delicacy stand. A mat in off-white feels warmer than pure white. Small sheets in dark frames strengthen the mysterious.
When buying
With thin glazes, paper quality and light protection matter especially. Ask about acid-free paper, UV glass and a frame with distance to the sheet.
