Light from the paper
Watercolor on paper lives on translucent colors in which the white of the ground glows along. Watercolor paintings on paper are for sale here, from soft gradients to dense clouds of color, for instance in the abstract style.
Watercolor does not cover, it glazes. The white of the paper stays in the picture as light, so bright spots are reserved paper, not applied paint. Once you grasp that, every sheet shows how long the artist waited and where he hesitated.

Paper and light in the room
Watercolors are sensitive to light. A wall without direct sun, conservation glass and an acid-free mat keep a sheet fresh for decades. In price you find sheets under 500 euro as well as works at 500 to 1,000 euro.
Questions before buying
If the description names a cotton paper, that is a good sign. Ask about weight, format and margin, since a thin sheet waves more easily. A loose sheet needs more care when framed than a mounted one.
