Structure as playing field
Modern and mixed media understand each other through contrast: strict composition meets changing materials. You can find modern mixed-media paintings with pencil for sale here if you want to join order with touch.
The picture is usually divided into fields or strips in which different materials sit. Paper, paint, plaster or wax alternate, and graphite draws lines between them. The eye first reads the order and discovers the surfaces later.

Hanging soberly
Modern mixed pieces need a calm environment. Hang them centered on a free wall and keep furniture at a distance. Lighting from the side stresses the material differences and makes edges visible.
Asking about the build-up
Inquire about the support panel, adhesives and the protection of the drawing. That helps you judge how the piece will behave over the years. Also ask about weight in case you need heavy-duty anchors. A light gray wall tone often makes modern mixed pieces look clearer than pure white, since it sets paper and paint apart.
