Canvas as a moving ground

Plaster on acrylic canvas joins the handling of a painter’s picture with the plasticity of a relief. Here you can find acrylic-on-canvas paintings with plaster for sale that you will happily touch with your eyes.

Unlike a rigid board, canvas gives a little. The plaster therefore has to be thin and well bonded. When that works, pictures arise that hang lightly on the wall and still look three-dimensional. Acrylic paint can be glazed, dabbed or spattered onto them.

Because canvas pictures are lighter than plaster boards, they also suit drywall. Side light from a window or a floor lamp forms shadows that give the picture a daily transformation.

Helpful questions

Ask how thickly the plaster is applied and whether the back stays stable. To limit your budget, start with 1,000 to 2,000 euro, and for non-representational work with Abstract. On care: plaster on canvas is only dusted dry, ideally with a soft, wide brush. Move the picture carefully and hold it by the frame, not by the surface.
