Oil paint without canvas
Oil on paper is a technique for painters who want to work fast and directly: no stretcher, no waiting, just paint and sheet. Anyone looking at oil paintings on paper under 500 euro for sale will often meet photorealist studies or urban and pop motifs.
Paper has to be primed or sized for oil, otherwise the oil soaks in and leaves halos. Well prepared, the color stays rich and dries slightly flatter than on canvas. The application is usually thinner, which gives the picture a sketch-like freshness that suits many subjects.

Light and flexible in a room
A sheet weighs next to nothing and can be rehung in a mat or a simple frame very quickly. It fits on shelves, windowsills, and in narrow hallways where a canvas would feel too heavy. Several sheets in the same format quickly add up to a wall group.
Framing and condition
Oil paint on paper is framed behind glass, with some air between glass and paint. Ask about the ground, the paper type, and whether the sheet is mounted. Formats up to roughly writing-pad size are typical for originals under 500 euro, a good way into oil painting.
