Canvas as a sounding board
In the upper price range, oil on canvas shows what the interplay of weave, primer and paint can achieve. If you want oil on canvas from 5,000 to 10,000 euro for sale, you will find large, mature compositions.
With large formats the construction is decisive: a strong stretcher bar prevents warping, quality fabric carries the weight of the paint, the primer protects against cracks. On this foundation oil unfolds its depth, which you experience anew over the years.

Room and frame
A large format needs viewing distance, at least the diagonal of the picture. Plan the wall with enough depth in the room. A wooden frame or floater protects edges and gives the picture hold, especially if it is to hang for a long time.
Buying well documented
An original of this size should come with signature, date, certificate and dimensions. Ask about varnish, drying and the condition of the back. Photos of the canvas in raking light also show the quality of the weave and the paint application.
