Fantasy with contour
A marker can hide almost nothing, and that fits the surreal: every line is in place, and every detail wants to be seen. Surrealist mixed media works with marker are for sale here for readers who value worlds between dream and drawing.
The clean line of the marker gives the absurd a hold. Creatures with alien bodies, buildings growing out of water, faces dissolving into patterns: everything looks concrete enough to be menacing. Collage or watercolor sets gentle tonal values against it. The effect grows with viewing time. At first you see a scene, later a pattern, then details you missed at the start. For a sheet like this a spot where you often stop is worth finding.

Other paths
If you want color in the foreground, look to painting; for larger formats, to the 1,000 to 2,000 euro band.
Avoiding the light
Markers are known for low lightfastness. So do not hang surrealist sheets in the sun, use UV-filtering glass and pay attention to the fixing. Ask about the paper: thick, acid-free stock ages more calmly.
