Grain as drawing
Abstract wood works show how much expression lies in edge, plane and grain. You can find abstract mixed media with wood for sale here if you look for works that manage without motif and live from their material.
Where wood stays visible, the grain becomes line. Paint covers some parts and leaves others standing, metal or paper set smooth counterpoints. The surface gets a rhythm that needs to depict nothing. Typical are boards and slats of different woods joined into surfaces, painted or burned. Where paint covers the grain only partly, you can see how material and design complement each other.

More sculptural work is under bas-relief. On price, 1,000 to 2,000 euro and 2,000 to 5,000 euro come up if you look for larger panels with elaborate working.
Care
Wood likes even air: not too damp, not too dry. Do not hang the work on outer walls at risk of mold or above radiators. Occasional dusting with a soft cloth is enough.
