Ambition and size
At this scale wood is no longer a support but the lead actor: heavy, warm, with a history of its own. You can find mixed media with wood for sale between 5,000 and 10,000 euro if you look for works with great presence and craft ambition.
For originals in this price band, large formats, elaborate construction and mature combinations of materials are usually to be expected. They often come about over weeks in several stages of cutting, sanding, paint and joinery. Typical are solid woods, sawn or milled shapes, burn marks and contrasting materials such as metal or plaster. Because the parts often come together over weeks, you can sense the path of making in every joint.

Technique in view
You find especially spatial work under bas-relief. There you can see how wood turns into wall sculpture. With large works, also factor in transport and installation.
For hanging
A heavy work needs sturdy wall anchors and possibly a hanging rail. Have weight and mounting method stated, and check the load capacity of your wall. Direct sun and dry heating air harm wood.
