Metal and dream
Surreal graphite drawings combine a nearly pedantic technique with images that contradict reality. You can buy surrealist graphite sheets for sale from 1,000 to 2,000 euro when riddle and craft are meant to come together.
Graphite has a cool, slightly metallic sheen that gives the unreal a material presence. A moon of stone, a sail of paper, a staircase into a mirror: everything gains weight and shadow. This very precision makes the riddle believable.

A picture that stays
Hang such sheets where you come to rest, in the bedroom, the library or by the dining table. In night light and candlelight the dark tones look especially deep. A narrow black frame strengthens the impression. If you like, set a single lamp to the side, since angled light makes the graphite glow and lets the dream image step almost three-dimensionally out of the paper.
Learning more about the work
Ask about the background to its making and about the series, if there is one. Such drawings are rarely accidental, and a sentence about the concept can deepen understanding considerably.
