Pastel and gesture belong together when the chalk is used like a brush: big, fast, with swing. Expressive, gestural pastel drawings for sale bring temperament onto the wall.
The technique demands courage, since finished layers can hardly be taken back. Gestural pastels therefore show every decision openly: a red arc, a scratched edge, a smear with the palm.

Placement
Large formats need distance so you can experience the movement from the side. Hang the sheet where you walk toward it, such as at the end of a hallway. Warm, slightly raking light brings out the depth.
For protection
Glass with spacing is a must. Find out about fixing and paper thickness before you frame, and never leave the sheet unprotected in the sun. Ask about the paper color: dark paper turns gestural bands of color into glowing signals, light paper lets them look lighter and airier. Both are a deliberate decision by the artist.
