Matte meets metal
Charcoal and graphite share a taste for grey but differ in sheen: one matte and soft, the other faintly metallic. You can buy charcoal drawings with graphite for sale under 500 euro here for sheets with both qualities.
In combination, charcoal makes the deep, dusty blacks, while graphite adds precise lines and a cool shimmer. Under angled light the two zones look different, so the drawing changes as you walk past. The paper carries both differently: rough stock lets charcoal sink in deeply, while smooth stock stresses the fine graphite lines and shows each stroke more clearly.

Careful, dust
Charcoal gives off pigment. The frame should therefore be sealed, with space between glass and paper. Unframed, these sheets are stored flat with tissue paper between them.
Size and level
Under 500 euro, originals mostly come as sheets in small or medium size. If you prefer to hang large, plan for that in the frame right away.
