Traces of thinking
A sketch in graphite is a conversation with oneself on paper. You can buy graphite sketches for sale here, also as photorealistic studies or at the level 500 to 1,000 euro.
In the sketch, speed, doubt and decision come together. Lines are set and dropped, proportions shifted, spots smudged with a thumb. Graphite keeps all of it and lets it stand calmly without smoothing it over. The charm of the unfinished applies here: you see where the hand hesitated, where it became sure and where one thought passed into another.

A small group of pictures
Sketches often come in series, so the thought of a group pays off. Same frames, same spacing, changing motifs: over time a wall grows that brings the studio into the room.
Check and ask
Ask about paper type, condition of the edges and dating. A sketch may carry signs of use but should be dry, clean and free of foxing.
