Kathak Dancer Indian Mythology

Original artwork description

Krishnas beloved is Radhamayi. Their love is divine and not of the physical. Radhas love for Krishna was spiritual and transcendent, beyond the earthly meaning of love. She is the Incarnation of Devotion and Selfless Love. A kathak dancer is depicting her dancing looking forward to Krishnas arrival from the fields.

Radhas joyful dance is the second of the series of 8 paintings on the theme of Gopi Geeth

This original artwork is in oil colours on canvas.

)This painting was inspired by Gopi Geeth from Bhagavatam a devotional book of the Hindus in India. Gopi Geeth is about the love the Gopis feel for Krishna the Godhead, their eternal Lover. Their love is not the physical one but of the eternal kind representing the human soul seeking the Supreme with whom it wants to unite to feel the ecstasy of oneness with God, to be liberated from the earthly desires and miseries. Radha, also a Gopi, is Krishnas lover and she dances as if delirious in the all consuming love for Krishna!)
