It is one of my early oil paintings, created when I was first learning the fundamentals of oil painting. At the time, I used fruit as a subject to practise light, colour, tone, and the basic techniques of painting. However, I found the process of painting still life somewhat monotonous, so I added a simple smiling face to the fruit, bringing a touch of humour and narrative to the otherwise quiet composition. It also made the process of learning and practising painting more enjoyable for me.
The work uses fruit as its central subject, with a simple composition and delicate brushwork capturing a subtle, almost human expression. Alongside the technical practice of painting, I was also interested in finding humour, solitude, and tenderness within ordinary everyday objects, allowing a simple moment to take on a sense of poetry.
