Original artwork description
“Raum ohne Mitte (Room without a Center)” is an abstract artwork that did not emerge from a single idea, but rather from a state of being. Over many days, the painting developed through an open-ended process of application, layering, removal, rejection, and re-condensation. There was no clear thought, no fixed point—rather, an inner search between disappointment, emptiness, and the attempt to avoid the need to organize everything.
Vibrant traces of color in red, violet, green, and white meet dark surfaces, vertical lines, and geometric shapes. The pictorial space appears fragmented, full of tension, and at the same time deliberately open. Nothing is fully organized; nothing resolves itself unambiguously. Surface, color, and time remain visible, as do traces of a process that is not intended to be explained.
The title “Raum ohne Mitte” (Room Without a Center) does not point to any clear direction. Rather, it describes an open situation: a space that is not clearly centered, but consists of shifts, edges, breaks, and quieter zones. The work deliberately leaves room for individual perception and personal association.
The surface has a satin-matte finish. A deliberate contrast is provided by the rectangle at the bottom, which has been given a matte finish and thus subtly stands out from the rest of the picture plane. In addition to the tension created by color and composition, this also gives rise to a subtle interplay of different surface effects.
