The model arrived wearing what I thought to be a very interesting hat, so we decided to include it in the painting. This work is of a mixed media, but mostly acrylic on Studland Board. I apply the acrylic in successive washes to achieve a desired structure and then overpaint areas with a more opaque use of the pigments. Pastel is used to enhance edged areas.
Because this work is on a Studland board, no varnish finish is applied because of its absorbency. So the painting should be framed with a mount and under glass. I recommend at least a 60mm wide frame, narrow frames on large paintings do not sit well and have a tendency to warp. It is ready to frame and hang.
