This is a mixed media painting using found papers in the background. The birds are painted not collage.
This painting was inspired by an encounter with a visitor to my garden this year. It will be of little surprise that I have a garden which I set out to be friendly to wildlife. I get hedgehogs, squirrels, voles, wood mice, copious insects and even the occasional fox, and a lot of birds. This year chirping away in the hedge by the bird feeder we heard an unfamiliar call. It was a budgie, we spent most of the day trying to coax them out from the hedge, playing recordings of other budgies, and tasty bird treats on display on the bird table but all to no avail. They did not come out and by evening had moved on as the calling had stopped. The painting is how I imagined the visitor. I could not see them in the hedge so they were perhaps a completely different colour but this is how I imagined them. I do hope they made it home safely and that they had a lovely day out.
