Original artwork description
One stepping out. Inescapably, the black and white motif of a pedestrian crossing! I’ve resisted the so obvious graphic inspiration until now as a completed work, I can do so no longer. The precision of dance-steps and the apparently random, unthought of act of walking, make sense of confusion and form a running refrain in all but whites. Worked raw, in dry pastel pigment and wet wash, the base canvas is covered as much as it proclaims. A gloss varnish finish introduced (lends) a permanence to a transitory glimpse.
