From the ALIEN Collection
Studio Edition of 15
CONCEPT AND VISUAL NARRATIVE
"Inside the Drop" is a signature piece from the ALIEN collection, where macro photography meets the cosmic mysteries of nature. Captured in the Swedish wilderness, this image of Cladonia Stellaris lichens reveals a whimsical world hidden within a single raindrop. If you look closely, the reflection of lichen branches forms the silhouette of an animal face—a playful convergence of light and imagination.
THE ALIEN CONTEXT: PIONEERS OF LIFE
In the context of the ALIEN collection, this work serves as a metaphor for the evolutionary journey. Lichens are unique symbiotic organisms, famous for their extraordinary resilience and ability to survive even in the vacuum of outer space. As "pioneers of life," they transform bare stone into fertile ground, laying the foundation for entire ecosystems.
The animal face reflected in the drop symbolizes this transition: from the microscopic "alien" pioneer to the richness of sentient life we see today. It is a bridge between the artist’s Arctic roots in Chukotka, where these lichens are vital for survival, and the scientific theories of panspermia.
EXHIBITION AND RECOGNITION
Honored as a finalist in the Arte Laguna Prize 16, "Inside the Drop" was exhibited at the prestigious Arsenale of Venice in 2023. It stands as a celebration of nature’s hidden wonders, where the smallest threads in the web of life reveal the grandest stories of our existence.
