Lost-wax casting in miniature
Bronze is the classic among cast metals, with a warm tone and fine detail. You can find bronze sculptures under 500 euro for sale when you want a small original in a traditional material.
Bronze is mostly cast by the lost-wax method: a wax model is wrapped in ceramic, melted out and filled with liquid metal. At small sizes the process is modest in material, but not in labor. That is why compact pieces are typical of this price band.

Patina and effect
The surface color comes from patination: warm brown, deep black, greenish tones. Over time bronze darkens through touch and air. Those who like that simply leave it, those who do not care for it now and then with microcrystalline wax.
Pointers on the original
Check whether a foundry mark, signature or edition number sits at the foot. Ask whether the piece is cast solid or hollow. That affects weight, stability and workmanship.
