Pointers for buying
The description should state type of stone, dimensions and weight, and whether the surface is waxed. Ask about cracks, inclusions or repairs, which can occur in natural stone. Always lift the piece with both hands from below, never by thin parts. Do ask which tools were used; stonemasons like to talk about that.
