Color beneath veils
A flower bed in yellow and pink, covered in black charcoal veils: the picture shimmers without shouting. Impressionist color charcoal photographs are for sale for anyone who wants to see delicacy and stroke together.
Charcoal lies like a fine veil over color passages. The color stays visible but looks subdued and deeper, almost as if under water. Where the motif blurs in the photo, the charcoal adds the contour by feel.

Light and protection
This interplay demands care. A mat keeps the glass away from the picture, UV glass protects the color, and a dry wall protects the paper. Avoid rooms with strong sun.
Asking questions
Inquire about fixation, paper and color process. Ask whether the sheet is a one-of-a-kind piece or part of a small edition and whether it carries a signature. The dimensions of picture and sheet should be stated too. A look at the back is important too: there you often find title, date and notes on technique, which are valuable later for care and resale.
