Speed in the material
Gestural painting shows the body behind the picture: a swing of the arm, a drip, a smear with the flat of the hand all stay visible. Collectors who want energy on the wall buy expressive and gestural acrylic paintings from 5,000 to 10,000 euro, and these paintings for sale deliver it.
Acrylic suits fast work, since it holds the movement and can be reworked after minutes. Thick strokes with a broom or palette knife, wet runs and dry smudges sit side by side in one picture. Up close you can often read the order of painting: which mark lies below, which came last, where was there a final intervention?

A picture as an event
Gestural works want to be viewed as if you had been there. Plenty of distance and a wall without competition help. Raking light emphasizes thick traces, while frontal light puts color contrast first.
Size and price band
At 5,000 to 10,000 euro, original pieces are often large canvases painted with the whole body. Ask about the depth of the picture and whether the running paint areas are stable once dry.
