Grays with no cheating
Photorealism in pencil is an endurance sport: thousands of tiny strokes add up to skin, glass or chrome. You can find photorealistic pencil paintings for sale here if you value precision that you only grasp up close.
Unlike with color, the photorealist has to convince through brightness alone. They set highlights as bare paper, build shadows in many layers and switch between hard and soft leads. The result can look like a black-and-white photograph, only with visible grain.

Standing up to closeness
Such sheets are made for viewing at arm’s length. Hang them in a hallway, a study or beside an armchair, not on a far wall. Non-reflective glass leaves the details undisturbed, and a white mat gives them calm.

Enlarge the photos in the listing: are the transitions smooth, the edges clean, the highlights clear? With smaller formats, works under 500 euro are a good test of your own preferences.
