Light and wall
Oil paint has a slight sheen, so window reflections bother sooner than with matte techniques. Lit from the side, the picture shows the depth of its glazes. Avoid closeness to radiators as well.
Check at a glance
Ask about the support, varnish and drying through. Dimensions in centimeters and the type of hanging belong in the description, as does a note on the signature. One practical point: oil continues to settle over time. Ask how long the picture has been drying and request a note on when the varnish was applied or should be.
