Scraps as dabs of color
Impressionism with collage: scraps of paper and acrylic paint become small flecks of light that strengthen the sense of a shimmering moment. You can browse impressionist acrylic collages on canvas for sale if you want to join mood with touch.
Instead of painting every dab, pieces of paper are pasted in. They bring pattern, line and color, and together with painted passages they form a mosaic. The eye assembles the parts into an impression of light and movement.

Held together by gel
Acrylic gel holds paper and paint on the canvas. It dries transparent and lets colors shine through. Good work is cleanly bonded all around, with no edges sticking up. A final varnish joins the different surfaces into a unit.
Hanging and viewing
Collages of impressions work best when seen in changing daylight. A spot next to a window with indirect light is ideal. Under harsh lighting, paper edges cast shadows that make the picture busier.
