A smooth stage
Oil on paper is rare in photorealism and therefore appealing: the sheet takes the paint more matte than canvas and brings a fine, even surface. You find photorealist oil paintings on paper for sale if you like restraint and precision at once.
Where canvas shows a weave, paper stays calm. That helps fine painting, because every line appears without texture from below. Primed paper keeps the oil from soaking in and the edges from fraying, and lets the paint sit on the surface.

Frame and protection
Works on paper belong under glass with a spacer so paint and pane never touch. A simple sheet in oil paint looks especially clear in light wood or white, and a wide margin gives the motif room to breathe.
On buying
In the description, look for paper type and ground. An unprimed sheet may darken or show oil stains. On paper works, the signature often sits low in the white margin.
