From sheet to painting
In the 500 to 1,000 euro range, oil on paper is often far more than a study. If you want oil on paper at this price level for sale, you meet fully worked sheets with a weight of their own.
Paper allows spontaneous marks that come harder on canvas. In this band you find sheets meant as works in their own right: with a ground, several layers of paint and a clear composition. An oil on paper has a quiet, intimate quality.

Mat and air
Paper is framed behind glass with a mat or spacer strip. A white mat makes colors glow, a tinted one mutes them. Count the frame into the overall size before you measure the wall.
Light protection and storage
Oil paint is robust, but the paper beneath should be acid free. Good listings name the paper type. Keep unframed sheets flat in a portfolio and away from moisture. A layer of tissue between the sheets protects the paint from abrasion in transit.
