Layers, breaks and overpainting
Expressionism puts the force of color and gesture ahead of faithful depiction, and mixed media adds extra layers to that force. If you want expressionist mixed media for sale under 500 euro, this price range often brings formats that work well as a first original on the wall.
Mixed media means several materials share one surface. An expressionist sheet might carry charcoal, paste paper and opaque paint on top of each other, so edges tear open and underlayers show through. Those breaks give the expression its tempo. The most rewarding pieces let painterly passages compete with bold lines and collage remnants.

What this price range suggests
Originals in this range often come in small to medium formats, frequently on paper or board, and many are by emerging artists who handle materials boldly. It is a good way into original art, since you hold a one-off piece where brushwork and layering can be followed up close.
Check the support first
Read the description to see what the work was made on. Paper and board need a mat and a frame with space between art and glass, and thick applications cannot take pressure. It also helps to know whether the surface was fixed and whether acrylic serves as the binder.
