Paint up front, material behind
When painting leads and other materials only join in, you get expressionist mixed media with a clear focus on color. This page lists expressionist mixed media paintings for sale under 500 euro, worked with palette knife, brush and found scraps.
The brush leads, but it rarely works alone. Between the paint layers sit sand, torn paper, pastel strokes or a scrap of fabric that roughens the surface. What makes it expressionist is the attitude: a bold stroke over a tidy transition, a color chord with friction over a soft gradient.

How these pieces sit in a room
Painted mixed media with relief catches raking light. Hang it where side light travels across the surface and the layers read almost like terrain. On a quietly painted wall, a single expressive picture has enough space to do its work.
Questions before you buy
Ask about the depth of the stretcher or support and how the surface is protected. A thick application needs time to cure fully and is hard to retouch later. Where the description names each material, you know best what is coming into your living room.
