Energy on paper
Expressive ink work lives on speed: the nib races, splatters and breaks a line where a thought ran too fast. You can find gestural mixed media pen and ink for sale under 500 euro, and the pull is mostly that visible energy.
Artists who work gesturally with pen and ink leave drops standing, drag the tip across the sheet and plunge into wet spots. That produces splatters, trails and bleeding edges that a clean drawing would smooth out. In mixed media these marks meet chalk, color scraps or tape and still stay readable.

Room to breathe
Since the result is lively, it needs air around it. A pale frame with a wide mat lets the lines breathe, while tight glass crowds them. Ask about sheet size and paper, and whether splashes are fixed, before you plan the wall. Direct sunlight is rarely kind to strong inks.
Check the sheet margins
Gestural pen work needs a margin where the swing can fade out. See whether the border is tight or generous before you plan the frame. A sheet with a wide border can be shown plainly with a slim mat.
