Two materials, one sheet

Dusty, so protect it
Charcoal sits loosely on the paper. A fixative helps but flattens the surface a little, which is why many people rely on glass. A spacer between sheet and pane stops pigment from settling on the glass. If you like it bolder, choose a sheet with large black areas; if you prefer it quieter, take one with plenty of bright paper and just a few charcoal zones.
In the room
Because of the dark tones, these sheets are strong on pale walls. A plain wooden frame is enough. Small to medium formats are common among originals at this price level.
