charcoal drawing on paper

Original artwork description

A fluid charcoal portrait that captures a moment of release—where structure begins to dissolve into gesture. The subject’s head tilts away, eyes closed or withdrawn, suggesting an inward movement rather than outward presence. Unlike a fixed portrait, this work feels in transition, as if the figure is slipping between states of control and surrender.

Executed in expressive charcoal, the drawing balances refined anatomical passages with loose, almost evaporating marks. Edges blur, lines break apart, and areas of the composition seem to fade into the paper itself. This interplay between precision and erosion gives the work a sense of impermanence.

Light and shadow sculpt the form, but never fully contain it. The figure resists being held in place, existing instead as a fleeting impression—an echo of movement, emotion, and breath.
