In the first painting, LAPIN is turned away, quiet and distant. In the second, he has turned toward the viewer, his expression suddenly more open and animated. The physical movement is minimal, yet the emotional shift is significant.
The work explores the subtle tension between solitude and connection—the moment when someone who has been looking away decides to look back. I am interested in finding emotional weight within simple gestures and allowing humour and vulnerability to exist together.
Oil paint gives the figure a soft, tactile presence against the intense green background, while the simplified forms create a quiet, almost surreal atmosphere. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the work invites the viewer to imagine what LAPIN might have seen, felt, or discovered when he turned around.
