Original artwork description
I call my technique carving; it involves applying layers of acrylic paint onto a substrate (in the case of this small-format work, a canvas).
Once all the layers have been applied, a carving knife is used to introduce a new texture into the paint.
Depending on the number of paint layers, the thickness of the application, the choice of colors, and the depth and direction of the material removal, new, multi-layered images emerge.
This small-format artwork is mounted so that it appears to float within a wooden housing.
