Ravanor is part of the small Sediment series. The title is open-ended, with no explanatory reference. Wood stain, Chinese ink, and graphite create a surface that emerges during the process and remains open-ended.
The challenge lay in striking a balance between gesture and emptiness. The large white area was not allowed to appear passive; rather, it had to actively participate. It was not difficult to add something, but rather to stop at the right moment. The decisive moment was the overlap of the two movements. It was only through this intersection that the image gained its inner tension.
This work is more minimalist than many of my previous pieces. It derives its vitality more from individual, clear movements and less from layering.
