This contemporary artwork is made with acrylics on fine linnen. Stretched on an aluminium stretcher. The sides are painted, so there is no need for a frame. The handwritten texts and the screen printed lyrics refer to the Dutch landscape. Some of the handwritten texts are gilded with silver and gold colored foil. This makes the texts seem to appear and disappear depending on how the light falls on them.
Inspiration:
The book “Het Ontsnapte Land” by Geert Mak served as a source of inspiration for this painting:
“The meadow grasses are nowadays limited to a few species, and we hardly know the bright color changes of the land anymore: the white of the daisies, the yellow of the dandelions, the red of the sorrel, the gray of the flowering grass itself . […] In addition, there was almost certainly a lighter and more colorful Holland, a landscape by Verkade, by Turner, Monet or the Hague School.” (From “Het Ontsnapte Land” by Geert Mak)
