Grey Heron

When one of these enormous birds would silently slip into our garden when I was a child, everything would stop. It was as if a dinosaur had appeared, we would all watch mouths agape as it stalked on long scaley legs around the pond. Then, just as quietly as it arrived it would vanish, spooked by some movement seen out of the corner of its yellow eye.
