From wax model to bronze
Bronze casting at this scale is craft with a tradition thousands of years old. You can look for bronze sculptures from 2,000 to 5,000 euro for sale if you want a piece with weight, patina and the history of the material.
First comes the model in wax or clay, then the mold, then the pour. After cooling, the sprues are removed and the surface is chased and patinated. With larger pieces especially, it shows how well foundry and artist work together.

Patina as color
Bronze is rarely simply golden brown. Chemicals and heat produce black, dark green, red-brown or blue, often with gloss on raised spots. The color changes slowly with air and touch, and with a little wax it stays stable.
Checking authenticity
Foundry marks, edition number and signature are usual features. Ask about the edition, since it decides rarity, and whether the piece is cast hollow or solid. Weight is a good hint about the execution.
